How many do I need? How do I prepare for it? Are there contraindications? Colon hydrotherapy is the safe and gentle infusion of water into the colon via the rectum. It doesn't involve any chemicals or drugs and the therapy is both relaxing and effective, and can often be mindblowing. Many patients are amazed at what pours out of them. Colon hydrotherapy has been done since the dawn of time, and there are even biblical references to purifying onesself in this way. Do you suffer from: Candida, PMS, backaches, headaches, bad breath, gas, arthritis, indigestion, constipation, sinus or lung conditions, skin problems, loss of concentration, depression, parasites, fatigue, irritable bowel syndrome, colitis, Crohn's disease, underweight or overweight conditions? Do you have less than one bowel movement per day? Are you changing your eating habits? Doing a fast? Experiencing a detox reaction? Then you may be a candidate for colon hydrotherapy. Here's a great article written by a MD on indications for colon therapy. Over the years, and due to processed foods, lack of exercise, lack of water, stress and disease, the colon (large intestine) starts to function less than optimally. Undigested food normally excreted from the colon stays there - and rots - often causing health problems such as the ones listed above. Physical and emotional issues build up and are absorbed systemically into the body on a cellular level. The colon is analagous to a toilet - it needs to flush regularly! Through cleansing programs such as colon hydrotherapy, physical and emotional issues get purged from the body. (For this reason, colonics are an excellent adjunct to psychotherapy.) While the large intestine's main function is to be a proverbial garbage can, it also has several others - to absorb electrolytes (cell salts) and vitamin B, and synthesize vitamin K. If a patient has a history of antibiotic use, this will diminish the colon's ability to make vitamin K, essential for blood clotting.
During therapy the client lies on a comfortable, custom treatment table. You are fully dressed from the waist up and draped from the waist down. From the hydrotherapy equipment, a small disposable speculum is gently inserted into the rectum, through which warm filtered water passes into the colon. These are closed systems, so waste is discretely transported into the drain line without offensive odor and without compromising the dignity of the individual. After each therapy session, the tubes are disposed of and the unit is thoroughly cleansed and disinfected in preparation for future use. Éireen uses both the Dotolo machine and the Colonet JR-4 gravity-fed colonic unit, which allows for simultaneous fills and releases of water, as well as abdominal massage, to dislodge toxic waste matter adhering to the walls of the colon. The dislodged fecal impactions are then gently washed away though the system's waste disposal hose. It is not uncommon to see *rivers* of sludge pass through the tube - even from the thinnest of clients. During the therapy, water temperature and pressure are monitored and can be varied to stimulate peristalsis (muscular contraction) in the colon. This is very important to help the atonic (sluggish) colon, as well as the spastic colon. Éireen uses only pure, filtered water, and does not add herbs or supplements (such as coffee, wheatgrass or acidophilous). While they might prove beneficial for some, to do so would be prescribing and as such falls outside the scope of a colon therapist. However, it is simply amazing what colonics of pure water can dislodge. Properly administered, colon hydrotherapy is not addictive. It encourages the restoration of the colon's natural function by strengthening peristalsis. It promotes the elimination of harmful bacteria so that the colon is better able to generate helpful bacteria. a
Colon hydrotherapy cleanses the entire large intestine, as opposed to an enema which cleanses only 1/3 of the colon at best. Over-the-counter suppositories stimulate expulsion of the contents of the rectum, but contribute to dehydration which may exacerbate a constipated condition. During a typical colon hydrotherapy session, about 15 gallons of water will be transported into and out of the colon. Using a combination of abdominal massage, aromatherapy, and breathing instruction, Éireen is often able to promote elimination of a volume of toxic waste, which would not otherwise be possible through individual efforts. Here is a video produced by the British College of Colon Hydrotherapy showing actual colon tube emissions from someone receiving a treatment. (It is probably best not to view this while eating.) Just one colon hydrotherapy session may be equivalent to having 20 or 30 regular bowel movements. Eliminations during subsequent therapy sessions can be even more substantial as older, hardened, impacted feces are dislodged from the colon walls. Each colon hydrotherapy session lasts about an hour. You should allow 1-½ hours per session. Colonics can be quite powerful, and allowing time afterward to collect yourself is preferable to rushing back out into the world. No. Colonics should never hurt. Sometimes there is discomfort as food and gas are leaving, but this is temporary. After a therapy session, many people report a feeling of heightened energy, an increased sense of well-being and renewed vitality. Others feel very relaxed and sleepy. Will you release twenty years of rubbery mucoid plaque in one session? Unlikely. But over time, as the older fecal matter is released, what commonly results is better health - less pain, stronger vitality and clearer thinking. This depends on your goal. If you need short-term relief - such as for bloating, warding off a cold, fasting, or surgery prep - one or two in a 1-week period. For seasonal cleansing, one or two every 3-4 months. If you have health challenges of a chronic nature, such as constipation, acne, arthritis or migraines, 1-2 times per week for 2-6 months. To help promote the best release, please do not eat or drink anything, including water, two hours before your session. Do not drink coffee the day of your colonic, and avoid any food allergens 12 hours before and after your colonic. Also, children are not allowed in the colonic room. Please call to reschedule should you find yourself without childcare arrangements. With some patience and discipline including the help of an experienced colon hydrotherapist, you have an opportunity to overcome serious health problems and start living a strong, healthy, disease-free life. But colonics are not a panacea. They are not the right solution to all of the above problems. However, for many, they will make a huge difference. If you or anyone you know is suffering from health problems listed above, colon hydrotherapy can be an excellent addition to your healing regimen, and may give you the health benefits you have been searching for.
